DNRE Seeking Recommendations for Biodiversity Stewardship Area Network

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment is seeking
recommendations of areas with high-quality native plant and animal communities for inclusion in a statewide network of Biodiversity Stewardship Areas (BSA).

The goal of the network is to identify and manage a set of geographic areas that support intact functional examples of Michigan's ecosystems and represent the wide range of the state's native biodiversity. Biodiversity refers to the full variety of living organisms (species), the variation in the genes these species contain and the variation in assemblages of these species (ecosystems).

Persons interested in biodiversity stewardship are invited to attend a regional public information gathering workshop to share information. A series of workshops are scheduled for the southern Lower Peninsula. (NOTE: Workshops for the northern portions of the state were held last year)
