Join the Friends of the St. Joe River for dinner and social time at the 11th Annual St. Joseph River Watershed Council Celebration at the Sturges-Young Auditorium in Sturgis, Michigan. This year's presentation will be:

DAM DANGEROUS!!!

Why You Should Be Wary of Low-Head Dams

If you paddle, fish, swim or boat on the St. Joseph River or one of its many tributaries, you've probably seen some beautiful and peaceful places. But looks can sometimes deceive. And the results can be deadly. The killers look like small waterfalls. Waterway professionals call them low-head or in-channel dams. They also call them drowning machines.

This year's keynote speakers will be Manuela Johnson and Ken Smith of the Indiana DNR. They will be sharing information that aims to educate river users and their friends and relatives about the dangers of low-head dams to reduce future drownings. They want to make sure we all have many more days enjoying the beautiful and peaceful places on the water.
